July 2019 First Sunday, a Walk in a Park

First Sunday This Sunday and as suggested we are going somewhere different.... Lets explore Heaton Park. We'll catch the first tram after 2pm from St Peters Square tram stop (it should be 14.11 if things are on time). It arrives at Heaton Park 23ish minutes later - so if you want to meet us at the Heaton Park metrolink please get there for 2.30. The unexpected element public transport always brings means it might be tricky to find us if you aren't at the tram stop on time so please try to be punctual ...

July First Sunday and King Street Festival

First Sunday This Sunday and we're starting in a rather peculiar way... I'll be on the histories soapbox at the Kings St Festival at 2pm Sunday 2nd June (I think the stage is by Tast) where I'll be talking about Manchester psychogeographies, fights for access and public space plus some other interesting stuff about our city streets. Will probably also challenge the claim this is Manchester's most iconic and historic street.... Loiterers are encouraged to come along, listen and heckle as you wish. Ou...

March First Sunday

First Sunday this Sunday and so time for a wander.... I've had a few requests for one of our occasional weeknight loiters as a some folk struggle with Sundays. There's also been several suggestions to explore places we haven't been to before and so the two combine to create March's event. We will be venturing into the Arndale Centre chasm although as ever we will not be shopping (and depending on the spirit of the derive we may not stay under cover for long). Please join us 6pm, Wednesday 6th March outsid...

February First Sunday and Folk Horrors

It's First Sunday This Sunday and so we will be gathering for a wander, although as many of you know I struggle walking in snow and ice so for me this is contingent on the weather. I'll update on Sunday morning, if I can't make the walk I will at least share some instructions. If anyone else fancies facilitating instead please shout. Sorry if wobbliness causes issues to anyone, I hope you understand. In the meantime, I will be at the Folk Horror Festival on Saturday and I spoke about the resonances with ps...

Sunday 11th November walk

The walk on Sunday 11 will start 3pm at the Engels statue outside Home, still waiting for detailed instructions from our comrades at STEP in NYC but they tell me it will be a search for Utopia... We'll be back to our self-guided, self-paced random wanderings here after the performance tour (photos of that online soon). As ever, all events free and everyone welcome. I'm still collecting socks and sanitary items to pass on, will be taking them sometime next week. I know a few people forgot last time but any ...

Octobers First Sunday is a collaboration with STEP (Saunter, Trek, Escort, Parade) in NYC. Items from The LRM archive are part of their exhibition in Queens NYC and this is the first of three walks together across the ocean. This script was sent to us by Moira Williams, one of STEPs curators Put a sock on it! For our Sunday October 7th derive let us be guided by the markers and monuments throughout our city(s). Our guides also include our collective playfulness, feelings and instincts to reshape and re-co...
